How To Be Greatly Used By God - 2 Timothy 2:20-26

The Practicalities 2 Timothy 2:22-26

So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls. James 1:19-21

Handling God's Word Rightly - 2 Timothy 2:14-19

Transformative Truth: 
For the church to be healthy, we must handle God’s Word rightly.

The Duties of Faithful Teachers 2 Timothy 2:14-16a

3 If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness, 4 he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions, 5 and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth.... 1 Timothy 6:3-5

O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you. Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called "knowledge," for by professing it some have swerved from the faith. 1 Timothy 6:20-21a

The Dangers of False Teaching 2 Timothy 2:16b-19

1. It leads to ungodliness.

2. It spreads like gangrene. 

3. It upsets the faith of some.

For the church to be healthy, we must handle God's Word rightly.

Remember Jesus Christ - 2 Timothy 2:8-13

Transforming Truth: 
Dauntless disciples keep JESUS at the forefront of their minds.

1. God's supreme power keeps the gospel advancing 2 Timothy 2:9

I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that my situation has actually turned out to advance the gospel: The whole imperial guard and everyone else knows that I am in prison for the sake of Christ, and most of the brothers and sisters, having confidence in the Lord because of my imprisonment, now more than ever dare to speak the word fearlessly. - Paul the Apostle (Philippians 1:12-14)

2. God's sovereign election keeps his messengers persevering 2 Timothy 2:10

[God the Father] chose us in [Christ] before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless before him. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. Ephesians 1:4-5

3. God's steadfast character keeps his word unchanging. 

If we have died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful--

"Everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven. " - Jesus Christ Matthew 10:32-33

1. Power up by grace
   2 Timothy 2:1

Power up: “to begin to make good use of or take full advantage of.”

2. Pass on the gospel
   2 Timothy 2:2

Through personal relationship, prayer, teaching, modeling, and practical instruction, we want to see people grow in: conviction character competency

3. Persevere toward the goal
   2 Timothy 2:3-7

Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.

Here is love, vast as the ocean, lovingkindness as the flood: when the Prince of Life, our Ransom, shed for us His precious blood.
 
Who His love will not remember? Who can cease to sing His praise? He can never be forgotten throughout heaven's eternal days.

True Faith - Luke 5:1-6

Transformative Truth:  It is God in His Word we must believe to have true faith 
not thoughts, impressions or even others.

1.  Who it was that was believed.

2.  What it was that was believed.

3.  How what Jesus said was responded to.

We must believe what He has said, and not what He hasn't.  We need to verify 
such things in His Word or it is not actually faith.

We must respond to what He has said appropriately.

 

Dead To Sin, Alive To God - Romans 6:1-14

Transformative Truth: Baptism portrays death to sin and new life in Christ.

"Run, John, run!" the Law commands But gives neither feet nor hands. Better news the gospel brings: It bids me fly and gives me wings!
